Black nail polish is everywhere. On celebrities, in fashion magazines, and, believe it or not, on Washington women’s finger and toe nails.
The must-have item is by Chanel, retails for $18 a bottle, and is called Black Satin. Unlike un-Chanel predecessors of punk years past, this one’s chic: a rich, saturated, ultra-shiny black with a trace of blue that looks like patent leather.
Painting on nails has been popular from time immemorial and at different stages of the development of human civilization; nail art was viewed form several different perspectives and served different purposes.
It stands to reason that nail art polish was not available until the 19th century, but there were a lot of natural materials that were effectively used fro fingernail painting and decoration.
This coming year, nail polish will going to be wild!

How to apply nail polish yourself
Prepare: When applying nail polish, prepare your cuticles first by using hand cream or cuticle oil to soften the cuticles. Push them down gently with a hoof stick.
Shape and file your nails as desired, then wash them thoroughly or use polish remover to remove all residue of grease or oil that might prevent the polish from adhering to the nail.

If you are going for a more traditional look, you must take care to avoid being mistaken for a goth! Worn properly, black nail polish can be either amazing or classy and sophisticated. Here are a few tips for using your black nails to the best advantage:
Do not wear black clothing.
Black tends to look classiest on short, well-manicured nails. Extremely long or obviously fake black nails simply look scary or costumish.
Perhaps the simplest style of them all is the basic solid color manicure. For open-toed shoes, be sure to apply a coat of the same nail color to your tootsies to accent your outfit and make you feel even more stylish. Basic styles in neutral and mild tones work very well for first impressions.
Choose a good nail color that complements the clothing you intend to wear. If the outfit is patterned, pick a shade that appears within the design a bit less than the other nail colors and use that same shade of nail polish to emphasize that hue.
Nail polish remover not only wipes off the old color but also the grease from the nails and makes the new color coat stay put for longer period of time. Apply thing coat of nail polish, let it dry and then apply another coat.
Even if you want a glossier effect, go for more than two thin coats rather than a thick coat of polish as it dries sooner and lasts longer and do not chip off easily.
